Semiconductor and quantum technologies are becoming increasingly important across a wide range of fields, including AI, next-generation communications, energy, and healthcare, and are expected to play a vital role as foundational technologies supporting Japan’s industrial competitiveness. As devices continue to achieve higher performance and greater miniaturization, there is a growing need to evaluate and analyze their internal structures and material properties with unprecedented precision, and to effectively feed the resulting insights back into manufacturing technologies.
SQAT was established to develop advanced analytical technologies for semiconductor and quantum devices and to promote their industrial applications by harnessing the high-brilliance, highly coherent synchrotron X-rays available at SPring-8, one of the world’s leading synchrotron radiation facilities. We are advancing the development of measurement methods and instrumentation for sophisticated analysis of semiconductor and quantum devices, while also conducting research and testing to quantitatively evaluate the performance specifications required of such instrumentation. Furthermore, through research aimed at expanding the range of applications for the measurement systems we develop and identifying optimal methods for their operation, we are working to establish a highly practical analytical platform.
In December 2025, SQAT was selected as a project participant under NEDO’s “Research and Development Project of the Enhanced Infrastructures for Post-5G Information and Communication Systems / Development of Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Technologies.” We regard this selection as recognition of the importance of SQAT’s research and development of advanced semiconductor measurement and analysis technologies in strengthening Japan’s technological foundation for the semiconductor industry. We will continue our efforts to play a central role in both advancing the technologies that will pave the way for the post-5G era and fostering the next generation of talent.
